Waiheke Island
Waiheke Island is one of the nearest island from Auckland. It takes about 30 minutes to go there by ferry. The island is in Hauraki Gulf. Its tourist attraction is mainly based on vineyards.
Waiheke is one of the must-see islands in New Zealand.

I spent a day in this island and I really liked it. I decided to try the Hop on Hop off bus for this trip. I think that this is a good way to discover a place you don’t know. It goes around all the 30 minutes and takes you to the best places.

I started from the furthest point I could stop by with the bus. So, my first destination was Onetangi. Onetangi is a place with a long beautiful beach and nice cafés and bars like BOATHOUSE.

Then, I went to the Museum of Waiheke. This is a little museum telling the history of Waiheke and illustrating old daily life with life-size dolls in different actions like mothers taking care of their house.

If you like markets, go and have a look around Ostend market occurring every Saturday.

Most of the Hop on Hop off stops are intended for wine lovers.
There are many vineyards like Cable Bay and others (Mudbrick, Te Whau, …).

But if you don’t drink wine, there are wonderful places to walk around and take photos of the landscape.
Waiheke is an island for people interested in wine but also for walkers, explorers and lovers of nature.
